Jared Sampson is a doctoral student in the Integrated Program in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Studies at Columbia University, in the labs of co-advisors Prof. Richard Friesner and Prof. Lawrence Shapiro. His research centers around protein-protein interactions, with a focus on antibody engineering and vaccine design. Prior to enrolling at Columbia, he worked in structural biology labs studying anti-HIV antibodies with Prof. Xiangpeng Kong at New York University, and before that, mechanisms of bacterial antibiotic resistance with Prof. Focco van den Akker at Case Western Reserve University.
Jared is also interested in software and methods development, as well as the accessibility of scientific—and particularly structural—information, and has contributed to the open-source software community through his work with the PyMOL molecular graphics program during two PyMOL Open Source Fellowships.
